Easy Red Rose Craft
If you need a quick gift for someone or just don’t know what to get a loved one on special occasions, faux red roses are a perfect homemade gift to make because of how cheap and easy they are. It is a simple DIY that will last much longer than any real roses.
Supplies:
-Crayola© Model Magic in Red and Green
-Small Dowel Rods or Skewers
(Optional) Container to store leftover Model Magic
(Optional) Mason Jar for display

Step #1: Cover half your dowel rod with the green Model Magic, leaving a space at the tip for your rose’s “bud”. This is going to be the “stem” of your rose.
Step #2: Cover the space you left on the tip with red Model Magic, rounding the end. This will be the center of the rose.
Step #3: Roll some of the red Model Magic into 10 – 12 marble-sized balls. It is recommended that all of the balls should be about the same size and that they should on the smaller end. This will result in thin, uniform “petals”, and ultimately will make the rose look more realistic.
Step #4: Pinch one of the balls between your index finger and thumb. Continue pinching the ball into a thin petal shape, with one side being slightly thicker to act as the bottom of the petal.
Step #5: Carefully wrap you newly formed petal around the red tip of the dowel rod, making sure to keep the top of the petal away from the tip. Keeping space between the top of the rose petals will help make your rose look like it is “blooming”.
Step #6: Create another petal like in step #4 and wrap it around your newly forming rose, putting the petal over the seam of previous petal. This will help you choose your petal placement and keep the tops of the petals from touching.
Step #7: Repeat step #6 with your remaining red balls. The farther from the center your petals are placed, slightly increase the space between the tips of the petals. While you continue to place the petals, keep in mind the bottom of the rose, smoothing out the bottom of the petals to form the base of the flower.
Step #8: Once you are satisfied with the shape of your rose, shape 2 – 3 small chunks of green Model Magic into teardrop shapes. These will be the leaves underneath your rose. Stretch the teardrop shapes until they are long enough to be placed on each side of the rose
Step #9: Starting at the bottom of your rose bud, place to larger end of the leaf on the rod underneath the rose and press the leaf up the rose until about halfway, letting the rest curve down. You can place 2 – 3 leaves depending on your preference.
Step #10: Your rose is almost done! All you need to do now is let your rose dry overnight. Place it somewhere where the rose bud is not touching a surface, like in an empty cup or water bottle.
You can make just one rose or continue to make more, but just remember that no two real roses are exactly the same so don’t worry if they all look different.
Once you let all your roses dry, you can arrange them into a bouquet or put them into a mason jar as decoration. Make sure to place your leftover Model Magic into a sandwich bag or airtight container for storage. You can make variations on the roses to make them more personal, such as changing the rose color to your mother’s favorite colors. Remember, the best gifts come from the heart and faux red roses are an easy way of creating a nice, thoughtful gift for someone you love.
